Created in 2001, ONF Andina is a subsidiary of ONFI the headquarters of which are situated in Bogota (Colombia). Its zone of influence extends to the Andean countries of Central America and the Caribbean.
Since its creation ONF Andina has worked on the following themes
- Forestry - support towards the elaboration and implementation of local, regional and national level forestry and environmental policies, sustainable management of forest resources, plantation establishment and maintenance.
- Local development - elaboration and implementation of projects (two of which are funded by the French Funds for World Environment-FFEM), biodiversity protection and enhancement, capacity building, sustainable agricultural production systems and management of sustainable agricultural companies.
- Climate change - identification and elaboration of forestry and energetic sector projects, carbon assessment, emission reductions projects, biological sequestration of carbon and the identification and development of REDD projects.
- Land use and Protected Area Management planning - environmental watershed management (notably: management plan of the Magdalena and Cauca river watersheds - 75% of the country's GDP), adapting and application of the Corine Land cover methodology to Colombia, management planning of protected areas, implementation of conservation strategies for protected areas and biological corridors and mangrove restoration...
